5 Claude Skills That Do the Work of a Small Team
No coding required. Here's exactly what each one does and when to use it.
Claude has a feature called "Skills" — small, focused abilities you can turn on for a specific job. You don't need to code anything to use them. Here are 5 worth knowing about.
SKILL 01
Real document creation
Claude can hand you back an actual finished file — a PDF, a Word document, or an Excel spreadsheet — not just text you have to copy out and reformat yourself.
Use it when: you need a proposal, report, or spreadsheet ready to send, not a wall of text to clean up first.
How to get it: built directly into Claude.ai on Pro/Team plans — no setup. Just ask: "Create this as a Word document," "Turn this into a PDF," or "Put this into an Excel sheet."
SKILL 02
It interviews you before it builds anything
Instead of jumping straight to an answer, this mode asks questions first — about what you actually want, what "done" looks like, what matters most — until there's real shared understanding. Then it builds.
Use it when: the task is important enough that getting it wrong would waste more time than answering a few questions upfront.
How to get it: no install needed — just prompt it: "Before you start, ask me questions until you're sure you understand exactly what I want."
SKILL 03
Built-in marketing and copywriting frameworks
Claude can apply proven copywriting and conversion frameworks to something you're writing — an ad, an email, a landing page — instead of just generic rewriting.
Use it when: you have a draft and want it sharper, not a blank page and no direction.
How to get it: prompt it directly: "Rewrite this using a proven copywriting framework like AIDA or PAS to make it more persuasive."
SKILL 04
Picks up exactly where you left off
Claude can save a summary of an entire working session into a document, so you — or even a different session — can continue from that exact point without re-explaining everything from scratch.
Use it when: you're mid-project and don't want to lose momentum (or your own train of thought) between sessions.
How to get it: at the end of a session, ask: "Summarize this whole conversation into a document I can paste into a new chat to pick up exactly where we left off."
SKILL 05
You can teach it a brand-new skill yourself
You don't need to code to give Claude a new ability. You can describe what you want it to be able to do, and it builds the skill through guided questions — a genuinely new capability, made by you, no development background needed.
Use it when: you keep asking for the same kind of thing and want Claude to just know how to do it going forward.
How to get it: this one's more advanced — it uses Claude Code (Anthropic's developer tool) rather than the regular chat app. The everyday version: tell Claude "Remember to always do X this exact way from now on" and it'll follow that within the conversation.
